Has lockdown got you pacing around your home, desperate for inspiration and longing for a long walk out in the open? Or maybe just a few hours (or days) away from your kids?

It isn’t easy staying fit and healthy in a world dominated by long workdays, endless online meetings and plus-sized meals. And now you have the added challenge of confinement with your (mostly) loved ones! You no longer work a ‘9 to 5’ while your kids are at school or crèche; you now have to work infinite hours as a teacher, chef and friend to your little one, not to mention trying to fit in your ‘regular’ job.

With all these additional demands and stresses, it’s even more important that we focus on our health, even if time does seem constrained. A healthy lifestyle is about more than just proper nutrition and consistent exercise; it includes getting enough sleep, managing stress and reacting swiftly to warning signs as these appear.

The HUAWEI Health App is a high-quality health assistance app that can be loaded onto any Android or iOS device to track and monitor exercise, heart rate, weight and sleep. With the app, you can create a training plan and get details on the exercise you have completed. The app is pre-installed on Huawei devices and can be linked to other wearable devices.

Tool #1: Exercise Records

When you use a HUAWEI wearable device, you are able to use the Exercise Record tab on the app, which allows you to record all your physical activity.  The tool differentiates between indoor and outdoor activities and integrates with your GPS to track and store your routes.

Also, you can choose specific exercise plans and set achievement levels linked to medals that let you add long-term objectives to your fitness journey, all providing some extra motivation when you are struggling to get into your running shoes. Support ranges from a 5km to a marathon running training programme. This is not only beneficial to yourself as a parent but can be fun for your children as well.

Tool #2: Heart Rate

The heart circulates oxygen and nutrient-rich blood throughout the body. When it’s not working properly, just about everything is affected. Even if you’re not an athlete, knowledge about your heart rate can help you monitor your fitness level — and it might even help you spot developing health problems. Being able to be aware of these concerns before they manifest is not only important for you as an individual but also important for you as a parent. You’ve got to keep your heart healthy in order for your children’s hearts to stay happy.

The HUAWEI Health App allows you to record key information, such as resting heart rate, and high and low heart rate. This data can be used to establish the most effective exercise limits and can alert you to any erratic heart activity.

Tool #3: Weight

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), worldwide obesity has almost tripled since 1975. Unfortunately, a significant portion of those who are obese are children. WHO also stated that obese children are more likely to develop a variety of health problems as adults. Therefore, maintaining a healthy weight begins with an extensive understanding of your physical conditions.

The HUAWEI Health App can be linked to a smart device, such as the HUAWEI Smart Scale, which uses advanced technology and accurate measurement to record and store body composition details. This information can be used to generate comprehensive health reports and customised health suggestions for both you and your family.

Tool #4: Sleep Monitoring

Sleep: an activity that we adults long for but sadly our little ones don’t seem to enjoy that much. Getting good sleep isn’t just important for your energy levels; sleep is critical for the health of your heart too.

Whether you are taking a power nap on the couch during the day, or sleeping in your bed at night, HUAWEI TruSleep™ records the quality and quantity of your slumber. Providing data on deep, light, and REM sleep, the HUAWEI Health App helps you to better understand your sleeping patterns.

Tool #5: Stress

Whether it’s financial uncertainty, work deadlines, your kids not eating their lunch or worrying whether you are a good parent, we all get stressed and experience periods of increased anxiety. But when we are continuously feeling frazzled, this could trigger heart attacks or strokes.

A supported device can be connected to the HUAWEI Health App and several variables, including cardiac rhythm and movement, are measured. HUAWEI TruRelax™ functionality helps users relieve stress by recording heart rate variability and providing feedback on the user’s stress index. This allows users to keep a close watch on their real-time health.

Huawei’s wearables products are part of the Discovery Vitality fitness device family. Vitality members are able to link their Huawei device and the HUAWEI Health App to earn points for recorded workouts. Earning Vitality points includes anything from tracking steps to speed and average heart rate, depending on the capability of the device used.
