Year End Thank You

Dear Colleagues,

As we close to the financial year end 2018/2019, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for everything you have done to make Vodacom Business the success it is to date and for making Vodacom Group a terrific place to work.

On behalf of the Vodacom Business, I would like to extend our appreciation for the amasing work done by you on the Vodacom Business Unite. The endless hours you’ve spent working on various business projects, and the professionalism, diligence, self-motivation as well as dedication have been a source of inspiration for the rest of team Vodacom Business team.

It’s been a tough financial year, the country is facing a tough fiscal year, but there’s hope and room for growth. Our sector is also facing numerous challenges. The rate of growth has slowed significantly and I what we’re seeing, particularly in a high-penetration market like SA, is that in a very mature market now we’re seeing lower subscriber growth numbers and pricing pressure, and then flat to declining revenues as a result.

Closer to home, we’ve been under prospective regulatory pressure. To some extent we’re much more mature, and we’re working on managing our margins in order to keep the bottom line growing. That said, this won’t come easy. There are no quick fixes. But our Vodacom Business digital strategy, vision and new ways of working are ready for renewal. In fact, we’ve already started planting some seeds of our digital transformation.

Some Key Highlights:

  • The partnership with the Gauteng Department of Education that resulted in the Department being able to register to enable application of Grade 5 & 8 in Q2 of 2018 in preparation for 2019 calendar year
  • Vodacom Business helped government to save circa 56% in expenditure from all participating government departments over a two-year period on the National Treasury Mobile Communication Services Transversal Contract (RT15)
  • We implemented a Smart Citizen App called “My Ekurhuleni App” in collaboration with the Ekurhuleni local government. the app provides the municipality with a real-time two-way communication engagement platform with citizens to report and resolve service delivery issues from water to sanitation
  • We were first to market to launch with a full Microsoft Azure package
  • We launched Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) offering in South Africa, making us one of the first telecom companies to launch this technology in the country
  • Vodacom Business Africa added 19 new countries to its already extensive 28 markets footprint, in so doing increasing its overall coverage to 47 countries across Africa
  • We partnered with financial and business management platform Fiskl to provide mobile and digital services to entrepreneurs and small businesses in Africa.

Thank you once again for all your effort.

Best regards,

Mickey Mashale
